Ku is another band of satellites available for owners of big dishes (C band)
if they also have that capability on their receiver/descrambler to receive
and decode those signals. The Ku satellites are generally lower power than C
band satellites and the fine tuning necessary is much more precise than the C
band stations. Ku is used primarily for news, educational programs, and live
sports programming via "backhaul" feeds.

There are also strictly Ku receivers and dishes. Those dishes are smaller
than the C band dishes but still considerably larger than the 18" DSS pizza
pan dishes.
