I don't understand

I think Pitino is a very stubborn man who, like most successful people, is
deeply convinced that there's only one right way to do things - his way. And,
while some of the things he insists on (like being in the best possible shape,
playing unselfishly etc.) are well and good, the other hallmarks of his
"system" undo all the good that comes from the former.

I just don't understand why Pitino insists on playing several
untalented/slumping players together for long stretches. I don't understand
why giving the other team open jumpers and layups while tiring ourselves out
is preferable to playing straight D and having the opponents make the shots
with a hand in their face. I don't understand why we have to front every
opposing center. Even if you're badly overmatched, is putting a body between
him and the basket (to at least attempt to draw a charge, or get the rebound)
any worse than having the ball lobbed over the top for an easy dunk? I don't
understand why large leads are allowed to evaporate without Pitino's
attempting to stop the bleeding until it's too late. I don't understand why
Barros is playing at PG, or why McCarty is playing at any position.

Losing two consecutive games in this fashion is something well-coached teams
just don't do. We did not lose because of the lack of talent - large leads in
both games attest to that - we lost because of Pitino's inability to coach the
talent that he has. Same for the fiasco in Chicago. I've said it last year, the
year before that, and will say it again: if this team ever succeeds, it will be
*in spite* of Pitino's " system", not because of it.
