Holley On WEEI & More Pitino

Holley mentioned on the Big Show, that he heard the C's may try
to get back in the draft. That's all he said regarding that.
Holley thinks Pitino has put a lot of pressure on the players with his
make the playoffs comment. He doesn't quite view the C's as a
playoff team; still doesn't like the Potapenko trade; questions
Pitino statement that he loves Battie, since he tried to trade
him.

Re-listening to the Pitino interview:

Pitino said he's watching the playoff games to check out possible
free agents.

Pitino spinning Vitaly - hardest worker on the team, most dedicated,
totally unspoiled by the system, not anyone as good in the draft;
strongest player on the team.

Said Pervis has this year to prove himself - last year of contract.

Says Kenny may be brittle.

Nothing about trading Ron Mercer, except comment in response to being
asked about getting a veteran player like Barkley. Said if he
included Mercer in such a deal, he would have to package 4 other players
to make the salaries work out. Other team wouldn't want to pick up
five contracts. (This comes from the original interview)

Pitino says this is the Age of the Gratification Culture - cites Corey
Maggete as an example - Says guys like him should bypass college and
let true amateurs play. One year and out types hurt college
basketball. Young players want instant gratification - may be problem
with young players on C's - Pitino wonders if Pierce will be motivated.
(Funny, Ordway, Ryan and Holley were saying the same things about Pitino
- He wants instant gratification).

Pitino says C's need a leader.

Pitino said he called every basketball team to find out what stars are
available, but didn't tell them which Celtics would be available.

Gaston has not questioned one thing Pitino has done, but doesn't come to
many games (Perhaps that's why he never questions Il Duce).

On Penny Hardaway - If he has interest in the C's, the Celtics have
interest
in him or any player of that magnitude. Would have to do a sign and
trade,
and investigate why Penny is always unhappy.

Says "Fellowship of the Miserable" quote is tongue in cheek, comes froma
guy at
Kentucky.
