My GM-wannabe plans
Now that the lottery is settled, some things float to the top. (no
wise-cracks necessary <g>)
1. The trade of a no. 8 overall plus AD for VP looks to be a good one. There
isn't much talent in the top 3 picks, let alone all the way down to 8. A big
guy is non-existant.
2. After watching the playoff games, it has come apparent that having a
dominant point guard is not a necessity. Also it seems having big and tough
inside players is the way to success.
3. After the initial exuburance of lusting after Payton, I think it is highly
unlikely that we would be able to trade for Payton or Baker. We have good
stuff to deal but not to make one of those deals to work out unless Baker,
because of his roots, drove a sign and trade. I don't think it will happen.
Conclusion:
With Bulpett reporting that Oakley is set to sign with Toronto, I think we,
along with many others, need to concentrate on L. Wright. With the premium
for tough inside players, we will have to pay him the max in a sign and
trade. I would be willing to trade Anderson and Mercer for L. Wright and the
Clips 4th overall (Now the Clips are probably going to be thinking Baron
Davis is their man as a home town boy.and he fills their need position.
However, I think that they need a experienced point guard to go with Taylor
and Candi. They would have a heckuva team with Anderson at the point and
Mercer at the 2 with Taylor at 4 and Candi at 5. They might even lose their
loser albatross mantle. However, knowing the Clippers, I'm sure they will
screw it up and draft a point guard, a rookie to mix in with those other
young players and lose more and then watch Taylor and Candi leave.) I would
take the best point guard available and let him be the 3rd point guard and a
understudy to Barros and Jones. I would lockup Battie and also resign Jones.
I would probably bring back Riley but let Schitius and Bowen go....
