Holley: Celtics Must Make A Trade

Ryan and Holley were on WEEI's Big Show today:

- Bob Ryan said there is a 70 percent chance that
Mercer will be traded.

- Holley said the best players on your team must be able to/
must want to play defense. He then graded the C's top
players: Anderson: No; Walker: No; Mercer: Only an average
defender; Pierce: May have promise. So a trade must be made, said
Holley. But, he also thinks they shouldn't overpay for what
they need. He mentioned Antonio Davis as being that type of
player, but Mercer for him would be an overpayment.

- The group judged Philly to be a better team that the C's
since they play defense. Comparisons may be made and criticisms
directed Pitino's way, if Larry Brown -- who could have been
the Celtics coach -- takes Philly far into the playoffs over
the next few years.

- Holley mentioned that the non-drafting of Tim Duncan set the Celtics
back three to four years. Holley and the others think he'll be a
two or three-time MVP, and that the team with the best player usually
wins the title these days - Jordan offered as evidence.

- The group mentioned that Pitino will make a lot of changes this summer,
it's his usual mode of operations, but that it might not be that
beneficial for the club.
