Pierce claims rookie of the month
honors 

New York, NY (TSN) - Boston Celtics guard Paul Pierce, who
led all rookies in scoring, and paced the league in steals, was
named the NBA's rookie of the month Tuesday, for games
played in February. 

Pierce led the Celtics, who were without Ron Mercer due to
injury, to a 6-5 record in February by averaging 20.4 points per
game. In addition to his league-leading rookie point total, his 7.1
rebounds and 1.45 blocks per contest ranked second and third,
respectively, among first-year players. 

Pierce, the 10th-overall selection in the 1998 NBA draft, scored
26 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and made seven steals in the
Celtics' 131-126 overtime victory at Vancouver on the 17th. He
led the Celtics in scoring four times, and rebounds four times in
10 games during the month.
