I think you are under estimating Mercer.  Mercer possesses the skills to
drive to the basket and finish. I think driving to the basket is the
strongest part of his game.   However,  in last year's offense his job
was mainly to come off of screens and shoot the mid-range jumper.  If you
recorded any of Mercer's games you will find out that when he drives to
the basket, he usually scores (dunk, reverse layup, or simple layup).

  I think  those of us who have followed Mercer from his Kentucky days
know what he can do.  However, he must given the opportunity.  Ex:  If
Magic Johnson's team of the eighties was forced to walk the ball up the
court every possession without the show time fastbreak, the Celtics of
the eighties would have won more championships, simply because Magic was
effective when was  fastbreaking.  Therefore, Pitino must revamp or
design an offense that is based upon the player's strength to benefit the
team.
