Peter May: Jerry Stackhouse For Ron Mercer

Peter May writes columns to torment Celtics fans, I'm convinced of
that.... I thought Stackhouse was a free agent?

Here's one rumor to keep in mind: Ron
Mercer for Jerry Stackhouse. The Celtics
would have to add one of their many
undesirables for salary cap purposes, but
those two would be the principles.
                                Stackhouse has never blossomed as
projected and those are the kind of
projects Rick Pitino likes. But Stackhouse
also is prone to making unwise decisions
at critical times, which is why Detroit
often had him on the pine at crunch time.
From a financial standpoint, he's under
contract for several more seasons, so that
                                would be a benefit ...

Tougher Luck Dept: Former Celtic Derek
Strong almost died last week after routine
surgery to fix his oft-broken nose. Strong
had a bad reaction to the anesthesia. His
heart started racing moments before he was
to awake and his temperature shot up to an
astonishing 107 degrees. He was wrapped in
ice, injected with fluids, and given
dantrolene, which probably saved his life.
While still unconscious, he was airlifted
to a second Orlando-area hospital. Strong
had thought about having the nose
operation done at an outpatient clinic.
The fact that he chose a hospital may have
                                saved his life ...
