Jump-started by Penny Hardaway's personal entreaties to Jerry West and 
former teammate Shaquille O'Neal, the Lakers have explored blockbuster 
sign-and-trade scenarios to acquire the versatile, at times volatile 
guard from the Orlando Magic, several sources said Tuesday.
