Celtics Road To The Playoffs Grows More Rocky As Hawks Sign Ellis

Laphonso Ellis has signed with Atlanta, as yet
another Eastern Conference playoff-bound team acquired a quality
player. The Knicks, Hawks,
and soon to be Magic with Rodman, have all strengthened themselves,
and their playoff
chances. Right now, it looks like the Pacers,
Hawks, Knicks, Nets, Miami, Orlando, and
Cleveland are all definite post-season participants. With Toronto and
Chicago sure-
fire lottery teams, that leaves the 8th spot
to be fought upon by Boston, Detroit,
Washington, Philly, and Milwaukee.

Had Detroit and Milwaukee not solidified their
frontcourts with the addition of an apparently
healthy Loy Vaught and Tractor Traylor, and if
the Celtics didn't have the road schedule from Hell or the youngest
team in the league, I
would favor Boston to make the playoffs.

But their youth, schedule, and improvement by
other teams in the conference seem to have
stacked the playoff deck against them. But
who knows? Perhaps Paul Pierce, the best
Celtics player since Larry Bird, may lead
them to post-season glory? And I feel that
Pitino isn't done trading yet. I think
you could see a Barros trade, because of
redundancy of carrying both him and Garnet.

Pitino's going to have to do something with
the roster...
