This is much less than I realized and is not out of line for him. I'm
now sure the entire reason for letting him go was the attitude regarding
Rick's autority and workouts.

This is not spinning at all. One thing Pitino has preached all along
(since before signing Mills) was to build talent that other teams will
be willing to trade for. Not to give large contracts to undeserving
players (eg. Minor, Brown, Ellison). All of the "busts" that you
mention were taken on by some other team. Any garbage the Cs have taken
in return (eg. Dontae) has been short term. I think this is a far
better philosophy than that of the previous regime. You think Pitino
was rash in signing Knight and Mills, but if other teams want these
players at the contracts Pitino gave them, they couldn't have been that
outrageous, could they?
