Rumor

This is probably another stupid ESPN rumor, and it doesn't concern the
Celtics, but the Hornets would have gotten rooked on this deal. Then again, if
they think Elden is worth Glen Rice, maybe that will change some people's
opinions of Campbell's value. I wonder if the Lakers turned this down -- do
they still think they could get more? Imagine what they would be like with
Rice bombing away from outside and Shaquille inside. Scary.

The Lakers and Hornets discussed, but will not consummate, a multi-player
trade that would have
sent Elden Campbell and Eddie Jones to Charlotte in
exchange for Glen Rice, B.J. Armstrong and
                          J.R. Reid, sources told ESPN.

The deal, according to sources, was instigated by
Charlotte, which is in the midst of a bitter
contract negotiation with Rice. Rice will make $5.4
million this season and has an option year for
the 1999-2000 season at $7 million. But Rice would
like a new deal.
