Yeah but working with Rutherford, he built the first successful detector (the Geiger
counter) for individual alpha particles (helium nuclei) and other ionizing radiations.
Geiger then used his counter in early experiments which led to the identification of alpha
particles as the nucleus of the helium atom.

If you ask me that's a lot more impressive than Oakley's line of high performance sports
goggles and apparel.
