As far as I know, there isn't any evidence that Pitino had a shot
at any high profile player (other than Scottie Pippen) with those picks.
Glen Rice, as a proven All-Star, probably had more trade value than
the #3 and #6 picks in a weak draft.
Here's an intriguing possibility though: Denver did give up McDyess
for draft picks (and cash) that offseason. So if Pitino could have
acquired McDyess and kept him, that would have been a great deal.
But that would take the risk of McDyess bolting when he became a free
agent and leaving us with nothing, which is exactly what he did to
Pheonix. Think of what the media would be saying now if that happened
to Boston.
