                                Red Auerbach on the Celtics' latest moves:
                                ''I thought we did well. [Ron] Mercer
                                didn't want to be here. And he tells
                                Denver he won't show there either until he
                                gets the contract extension. [Danny]
                                Fortson will really help us. He's a bull.
                                He plays hard. He's something like fourth
                                in the league in rebounding. If Kenny
                                Anderson comes back ready to play, and
                                he's healthy and stays healthy, then we
                                should be much better than we were last
                                year.'' Personally, I never liked Mercer's
                                game. A terrific jump shooter, but he
                                couldn't create his own shot and didn't
                                give much effort at the defensive end ...
