>>>BOSTON- I spoke to a GM yesterday, who said that Boston has offered alot
of people alot of things, among them was Tony Battie, Ron Mercer, and
Antoine Walker. The common thought that I am hearing is that Rick is
shopping to improve the team, and at this point anyone is expendable, except
for Paul Pierce. Also someone who has raised concern was Vitaly Potemenko,
the coaching staff was pleased early on at the work he'd put in this summer,
but it hasn't translated to improved play, and now the thought is that the
extra 15 pounds he's put on may be a liablity. The Celtics did sign CBA MVP
Adrian Griffin, to a 1 year (team option for a 2nd) guaranteed deal, he is
expected to play off the bench for added scoring. Wayne Turner is expected
to sign with the team as early as today, Turner was told by Pitino that he
would be taken in the 2nd round of the draft and was skipped in favor of
Kris Clack, who the team has expressed interest in keeping the rights to but
had asked that he play a season in Europe to develop. The Celtics are still
exploring trades with Dallas, Detriot, and the Clippers. Although all of the
team involved say that a deal is not close, as Boston wants excessive value
for players they could eventually lose to free agency.<<<
