Not as sure of this, as I think AW on a team where he was demonstrably not
The Man and had a few role models on what being a pro and an all-star
*really* means would still be as talented and a much better player. Of
course he wouldn't have been the starter and KC was notorious for not using
the bench, so maybe you're right regardless of that.

Yeah, but I think you're on to something. Our current big men who really
should be backups are probably the ones that could most have helped those
teams by playing their proper backup slot. Add McCarty to DeC as the two who
best fit there, expecially looking at McCarty as somewhat of a defensive
specialist who wouldn't get the opportunity to take all the 3 point bricks
he did for us and would learn to use the inside game that he has shown
flashes of having better.

Amen to that. Wasn't just the talent, either. So many of the little things.
I was listening to a WEEI re-broadcast of the '86 finals game 6 a couple
weeks ago, and when I heard Johnny Most's call of Bird stepping outside and
faking the three to dish off for a better shot in the opened lane, all I
could think of was when was the last time you even heard of a real 3 point
shooter faking it to open up a better shot for someone else?
