I'll start answering all the questions Jim asked, but first I want to
address the above. Kim...don't force me to say it, but I agree with you
quite a bit...I just refuse to admit it. So...to Jim. Why was hiring Pitino
a mistake? Look...here's something I've never understood. What has Pitino
done in the NBA that makes anybody think he's capable of building an
organization ....from scratch?!? Please...could someone answer that? This
comes back to what I said about the Celtics being a joke. This organization
reeks of desperation. ML Carr was all about rolling the dice...and losing.
Now you have an impatient screamer who hasn't been in the NBA for almost a
decade who was never adept or really cared about devising a half-court
offense who is.....in charge!...of everything!...for seven years! Did
anybody think he looked desperate playing gm last year? Blame any NBA
veterans if they thought so? Any way to win, right now in the NBA, without
veterans? Was it Tim Hardaway who said he could never play for Pitino with
all the screaming and the novelty act that is a defense? You know Kim,
you're right. The Celtics aren't a joke, they're a novelty act. They're a
dog and pony show. Jim.....Here's the constructive part: What don't you get
with Larry Brown that you get with Pitino? In fact, I think you could argue
that because today's players have actually seen Brown succeed in the NBA -
and he's been more successful at that level than Pitino - that the
organization would've gotten more from Brown FOR LESS MONEY. If I were king
of the Celtics and I had to write a big check for one person to run things
for the next seven years because I didn't know a thing about basketball,
like Paul "Sterling" Gaston...I would've hired Larry Brown. Pitino was Aunt
Bea to me last year...and he's become Aunt Bea again this year.
But....Anybody else available at the time they hired Rick? Hire them.
Anybody but Pitino. Antoine? I'll be short and sweet: I think Antoine has
been cheated by ML and Pitino, and I'll get into that soon, but I have to
run. So.... to review: Why was hiring Pitino a mistake? He hasn't been in
the NBA for years...he wasn't that thrilling when he was in the NBA...he
has limited coaching skills.....he's an imaptient screamer....you could've
gotten somebody just as good or better for less money. I'll be honest. I
would've waited a year and put all my money on George Karl. Kim....twice in
one week? It'll never happen again.
