Steve Javie
If noted referee-basher Johnny Most were still with us, he'd have plenty
to say about Steve Javie. Of course, there've been many games this year
where the opposition has enjoyed a massive advantage at the foul line,
but when Javie is in the building it is a mortal lock.
Tonight at Philly was the fifth Celtics game that Javie has officiated
this year (per boxscores on the ESPN site). Boston's record in them is
2-3, in line with their overall. However, check out these FT stats:
10/31 Boston 11-15 (W) 12/13 Boston 5-11 (L)
Chicago 18-29 Detroit 14-16
1/10 Boston 5- 7 (L) 2/4 Boston 7-12 (W)
Orlando 29-40 Dallas 31-36
3/29 Boston 14-18 (L) Totals Boston 42-63 (12.6 FTA avg.)
Phil 30-44 Opp. 122-165 (33 FTA avg.)
Javie is also not a fan of Antoine's. In these five games, Walker has
111 FGAs and only 13 FTAs. In two of the games, he didn't go to the
line at all. In one of those two, Walker was also ejected by Javie for
staring at someone.
Here are the disclaimers: Javie wasn't the only one making calls, and
I'm taking the Tommy viewpoint here more than the Cooz viewpoint.
Nevertheless, something is clearly not right, and I wonder if Javie will
ever give the Celts a fair shake.
