Lockout Moratorium

A quote from an AP story regarding a proposal to postpone the lockout
so that NBA players can play for USA basketball in this years World
Champoinships.

> Granik indicated that if a moratorium took
>effect this summer, it would not expire after the world
>championships. A more likely date would be Oct. 1, right before
>the start of training camps. "I said to them I can't guarantee
>what USA Basketball's position will be," he said. "So we're
>willing to talk about it, but only from the standpoint of the
>NBA. And I made that clear to the union."

I take this to mean that in order to let the US field a strong team
for the Worlds, the league would put the NBA season in a much higher
degree of jepeordy. I'd be pretty leery of an approach like this.
I'd much rather see the League and the Union get things straightened
out now (even if it means the US doesn't win the W.C.), than see the
NBA season be jeapordized.
