Sometimes it is relevant. It often helps to understand where someone is
coming from. I don't think age is related to validity and I don't think
anyone suggested that it is. (Though if it was the cutoff would be 44 :-) )

Appropriate is a more open question. The nice thing about a listserv is
that you don't have to answer inappropriate questions.
