Re: Celtic Cheerleaders....
I temporarily took myself out of this group because it became one huge
anal retentive flaming ring. By anal retentive I mean one person will
make an innocent comment and all of a sudden 15 people will verbally
attack him/her claiming they are the gods of Celtic knowledge. Case
in point a Mr. Jeff Chin made a comment saying that he would like to
see some cheerleaders at the Fleetcenter. Then all of a sudden the
Celtic "fan" committee fired back at him as if Jeff were some bumbling
idiot. There was no diplomacy whatsoever in anyone's views. Noone
tried to see the other person's point. That's the purpose of a
discussion group, to open your horizons and learn a thing or two. All
I saw was, "I am right and you are not". I didn't see one instance of
"you know, you may have a point". We're not here to gang up on one
person's view, we're here to exchange ideas and thoughts. Now if
someone came in this group and said that Bird is a total talentless
idiot then that would be grounds for some flaming but please,
cheerleaders in the Fleetcenter?
Get a life and stop being so anal.
Now as far as my view, cheerleaders would be a nice addition to the
Fleetcenter. Oh but wait what about the tradition you ask? Listen
boys, we're not in the Garden anymore. We're in the Fleetcenter, a
state of the art facility made for the 90's. The Celtics have adapted
to their surroundings with a faster, flashier, style of basketball.
Why can't there be cheerleaders in the Fleet? Again you ask, the
Celts didn't need them before, why now? The Celtics don't need
cheerleaders but the fans do. The fans are different now then they
were in the 80's. The 80's Celtics fans were like the Chicago fans of
today. They were proud, vicious, and fierce at every game and they
usually almost went to every game because everyone wanted to see Bird
play no matter who the opponent was. Nowadays you can spot a few
yuppie fans bringing laptops with them to the game having a business
meeting during the game. Don't tell me you don't see them, go to a
less populated game like a Raptors or Grizzlies one and you can see
them with their cell phones and briefcases. You would never find
those types of people in the stands at the Garden because it was too
packed and too loud to do that kind of stuff. Even with the revamped
Celts I'd say almost half the games are not sold out because they
aren't against ranked opponents like Chicago or LA. You would never
find that in the 80's. Even against the Bucks or the Nuggets you
would find the Garden close to full. A Raptors game? Please, the
stand might be 60% full for a game like that. The times have changed
and if bringing in cheerleaders attracts a few more fans to the games,
then so be it. Don't look back, look forward.
That's my two cents.

PS Don't litter my account with flames, I don't take it too kindly and
I can hang with the best of them on internet flaming. Ask Greg O. in
the group, he'll tell ya.
