NBA Preview (Vancouver-Boston)

Vancouver (10-28) at Boston (16-19) 7:00 pm EST

The Vancouver Grizzlies try to snap their 11-game losing streak tonight
when
they face the only team against which they have a winning record, the
Boston
Celtics.

The Grizzlies, who are winless since an 88-86 triumph over Portland on
December 21st, have lost seven in a row on the road since November 30th
at Detroit. The 11-game skid is a season high and four losses shy of the
club
 record.

But Vancouver is 3-1 all-time against Boston after winning both games of

the series during the 1996-97 campaign, the team's first-ever season
sweep.

Grizzlies center Bryant Reeves averaged an astounding 31.5 points and
15.0
rebounds in two games against the Celtics last season. By comparison,
Reeves is averaging 12.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game this season.

Shareef Abdur-Rahim continues to put up big numbers for Vancouver,
leading the team in scoring in each of the last four contests with a
25.3 points
per game average. But he has also committed 17 of the team's 77
turnovers
during that stretch.

Boston has lost five straight games for the third time this season,
including a
pair of home losses to Western Conference opponents Seattle and San
Antonio. Tuesday's 97-88 loss to the Spurs dropped the Celtics three
games under .500 for the first time since they were 9-12 on December
13th.

The Celtics, who have not led in any of their last four games, shot just
31
percent from the field Tuesday. They made 31-of-35 from the foul line
after
attempting just 12 free throws in their previous two contests. Rookie
Chauncey Billups hit 13-of-15 foul shots and finished with a career-high
26
points.

I think that -9 points is the most that Boston has been
favored over a team this season.
