RE: WNBA in Boston

Forgive me for being unable to resist jumping in on this
subject. I'm a proud father
of two basketball-playing girls (and one basketball-playing son
and a basketball playing
wife), a many-years coach, and a recent league commissioner for
girls basketball. The
women's sports are definately here to stay, and are showing
significant progress every
year. Realistically though, it will be many years (10+ ?)
before a woman will likely be
able to play at the NBA level. At this time the women's play is
well below the rim and
nowhere near the physical level seen routinely in the NBA (or
even CBA). However,
that statement is not meant to diminish the current level of
play. The application of
fundamental basketball skills (passing, dribbling, shot
selection, etc.) seems much
better in the USA women's professional leagues than frequently
displayed in the (one-
on-one) play of the NBA. And there are many spectacular female
players at the
	professional level now.

If any of you local (New England) fans want to see a
female-Celtics(-like) team, you
need to forget the WNBA and instead watch the New England
Blizzard team of the
American Basketball League (ABL). They are likely to make the
playoffs this year.
They play home games in Springfield, MA and in Hartford, CT
(both about 1& 1/2 to 2
hours away from the Boston region. Their prices are not overly
expensive. The players
take their role model responsibilities very seriously (unlike
the NBA lately)! And best
of all, they are coached by former Celtics great K.C. Jones.

Thanks for your patience during mini ABL commercial. My
best to the many
female Celtics fans on this list, and a big round of "boos" to
those list members
who apparently haven'y yet left the 1950s and 1960s behind.
