current draft rankings
Here is the current version of the draft rankings that ive been sending out
over the past year or so. Just a reminder that these are not my personal
rankings, and I don't necessarily agree with them.
Jeff
Owen O'Malley's 1998 N.B.A. Draft Prospects
February 16th Edition
Top 50 Seniors
1. Raef LaFrentz PF 6-11 240 Kansas
Versatile and mobile big man. Some question his
physical strength, but I think he can be spotted
at center. Reminds me of Christian Laettner.
2. Bonzi Wells OG-SF 6-5 210 Ball State
Tremendous athlete. He's improved his outside shot.
Should develop into future N.B.A. All-Star.
3. Mike Jones G 6-3 210 Texas Christian
Short for an N.B.A. OG, but just a terrific all-around
guard. Should be able to play PG at pro level. Averages
around 22 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 50%
field goal shooting.
4. Pat Garrity F 6-9 230 Notre Dame
Skills similar to Keith Van Horn. Handles the ball
well for a forward.

Rose from obscurity to become one of the best players
in the country. Will probably play SF at pro level.
Good free throw shooter. Can create shots for himself,
or his teammates.
6. Clayton Shields SF 6-8 210 New Mexico
Pure-shooter. Reminds me of Glen Rice.
7. Charles Jones G 6-3 180 Long Island

Talented enough to be a starter, but might be best-
suited as a team's third guard.
8. Michael Olowokandi C 7-0 265 Pacific
Has developed into a solid center, with good footwork.
Has the potential to be a all-star at pro level. He

limited playing time his senior season.
13.Matt Harpring SF 6-7 225 Georgia Tech
Solid, all-around player.

scoring this season. Played well against A.C.C.
competition. Good shooting ability.
18.Cory Carr OG 6-4 200 Texas Tech

Has good shooting range, but he's more of a scorer than
shooter. Shoots around 43% on field goal attempts.
19.Jeremy Veal G 6-3 185 Arizona State
Creative scorer, who should be effective at both
backcourt positions.
20.Toby Bailey OG 6-5 205 UCLA
Athletic player, with good passing skills. Not a
consistent shooter.

be an excellent complimentary player to one of the
N.B.A.'s premier centers. Good passer.

Tremendous athlete. Racks up good assist numbers,
but he also has a lot of turnovers. Needs to improve
shooting range.

Lacks height for PF at pro level, but his post-up skills
are exceptional.

He's listed at 6-8, but he looks more like he's 6-6. Solid
player, with good low-post moves.

Can score and rebound, but needs to improve passing skills.
He's bulked up, but still has pretty good mobility.

currently sidelined with a foot injury.

and shotblocking skills, but he needs to improve his free
throw shooting. Reminds me of Erick Dampier.

Has the size to be a starting center in the N.B.A., but he
doesn't seem to accomplish much on the court. Native of
Belarus.

Good shooter, who has pretty good all-around skills. He's
capable of erupting for a big game.

Had a better season his junior year.

He lacks shooting range, and he has an unorthodox jump shot.

Good scoring ability. Combines outside shooting with drives
to the basket. Scored 42 points against Arkansas this season.

Good athlete, who's played OG during his career. With his
versatility, he should be able to make conversion to PG.

play PG in the N.B.A. Needs to reduce turnovers to be
an effective floor leader.
