The fact that Miller cannot play pressure defense now does not mean he cannot in the future. > I like McDyess for his > defensive intensity. As do I, but Miller can be signed for the minimum. Mcdyess will likely demand 10 million. I would prefer to sign Ratliff for less money and draft Traylor. That way we might be able to have some post-resigning of Antoine cap flexibility. > > mpg - fga - fgm - fg% - fta - ftm - ft% - reb -stl - bl - ppg > 19.1 -324 -164 -.506 - 159 - 96 -.604 - 4.9 - 81 - 48 - 5.6 > 23.6 -700 -355 -.507 - 232 -166 -.716 - 6.7 - 68 - 87 -11.4 > 26.2 -364 -168 -.462 - 101 - 61 -.604 - 6.4 - 58 - 69 - 6.5 > 29.7 -568 -290 -.511 - 271 -188 -.694 - 6.6 - 43 -246 - 9.8 > 29.9 -859 -458 -.533 - 308 -218 -.708 - 7.7 - 94 -127 -14.9 > > Top to bottom, the players are:DeClercq, Geiger, Miller, Ratliff, McDyess. > MIller's fg% is lower than Barros. Not good for a big fella. He's only shooting poorly this year and his shooting percentage is immaterial anyway. His primary role would be to run the offense of the second unit, not shoot himself. Also he would be a backup so what's the use of comparing him to potential starters? We know he's going to be an inferior player, but if we sign him for the minimum and he helps us out does his quality in relation to other starters(paid ten times as much as him) matter? > Ratliff's shotblocking is tremendous. You're right on all counts, but just as in the Mcdyess/Miller comparison, the question is not whether Mcdyess is better than Ratliff but which player helps the team most for the least money. If we can get Ratliff for 3 million less than Mcdyess and resign Popeye Jones(assuming he's healthy) with the remaining we would come out better than if we had only signed Mcdyess. Noah
