I
definitely disagree with the comments that he was a great rebounder,
directed the defense, and was that great a defensive player ? McHale
and
his long arms caused much more of a defensive problem.
Chief was a key role player but he was not an Olajuwon or Robinson type
dominant center or defensive threat inside, just lucky to play with the
likes of Bird & McHale.
WHAT???? Are we talking about the same #00 who was constantly at the
top of the league in FG %? The same #00 who could beat any big man
in the league down the court, softly catch the Bird touchdown pass
and jam it home? The same #00 who could shut down any center in the
league (except Kareem)? The same #00 without whom the 80s Celtics lost
more games than they lost without Bird or McHale? Why don't you ask
Patrick Ewing about whether the Chief was "dominant" or a "defensive
threat inside" -- at least before he turned 40?
This is ROBERT PARISH we're talking about, not Henry Finkel. There's a
reason this man was voted into the top 50. There's a reason they'll be
retiring that #00 on January 18th. And if he's not voted into the Hall
of Fame at the earliest opportunity, there is no justice in the NBA.
