Gre Minor or Draft News

Ok, Greg Minor, not paying child support, bad.

But where is the Celtic team news. For some reason Peter May of the
Globe has seen fit to write column after column, page after page, of
sports page space on Minor and his families strife - repeating quotes
and most of the details from day to day with little new input. Now
there is a story there, and Minor has done wrong, but what does this
continuing story have to do with taking up all of the Celtic space in
the Boston Globe. Why can't they stick it in the general news section
of the human interest section, (or even the editorial section as almost
everything has been told from one person's perspective).

Right now the decisions for the most important draft in recent Celtic
history are being made, and we get three straight days of stories about
Greg Minor being a jerk and not paying child support.

Both the Boston Herald and the Providence Journal have been running
stories written by reporters at the Chicago Draft camp about what is
going on there. Why doesn't Peter May and the Globe see fit to tell us
that Stephen Jackson has been very impressive in the early workouts, or
anything else about the players there? I for one am going crazy for
news about the Celtics, not about family court.

Anyway, sorry for the rant...I've just been frustrated about buying my
daily Boston Globe and getting nothing usefull from Peter May, when what
i want is info on what the Celtics are doing, reviews of possible draft
picks, and info about the free agent market.

Now, as to the draft...I hope we keep both picks, and don't trade down
or trade for anyone but a young established player who they are
guarenteed to have under contract for at least three years. Although I
want to see Foyle and Van Horne as Celtics, I'd be happy with any of
Battie, Daniels, Foyle, Mercer, Van Horne, or Billups (though the fact
that Billups has refused to give any individual workouts has me worried
about him). Thomas may also be a player, but I get worried about mixing
projects with possible work ethic problems on a young developing team
(Pitino commented he still needs to find out if Thomas even likes to
play basketball). I really don't see using a top six pick to reach for
Cato - he's fairly good on defense, but I've read several reports that
he has mediocre hands and is not a very good rebounder for his size.
Moreover, he has been very inconsistent. He has done well in the one
camp and in one NCAA tournament game, but I question his desire and
overall potential. I see Brevin Knight as a borderline pick - he seems
a bit erratic on his outside shot - but otherwise he seems to have
skills that might justify him as a top 10 pick - but a stretch at 6).
Tracey McGrady may someday be a player, but I've recently heard some
college scouts rip into him pretty badly. Lets wait on the high school
kids. Even if they do develop, there's no guantee they will stay after
three years, as they will want to go somewhere where they can shed the
image of being a project player.

Anyway, enough for now,

Adam
