I've read here and elsewhere that the Lakers really wanted to keep Travis Knight (and that Knight wanted tos tay) but could only pay him chump change because of their salary cap restraints. I thought teams were not restrained by the salary cap when it came to signing their own free agents (the Larry Bird clause). Can anybody clear up this confusion?
