Big 'uns

I agree with the guys saying that we should draft big twice. We just
don't have any future players who are big. Even if we kept Dino, he is
already thirty. Walker is, at best, a #3/#4, and not the dominant
defender/rebounder we need at #4. So, I say draft for bigness and fill in
where we can with a back-up point and help at #2.

I doubt there is a Ray Allen or Stephon Marbury out there for us to vary
this approach and select "the best player" regardless of position. The
best is definitely Duncan and I hope some other "aircraft carriers" will be
available so we can get a front line to carry us into the next century.

Furthermore, since this is my first 1997 post (HNY to all), I must say that
our first concern must be coach. I like M. L., but we have some players
who need development. Eric Williams, Minor and Walker can develop into
very good contributors but they can't be allowed to lose their confidence
in this team's future. We're getting awfully close to that, I would think.
The best thing about the losing trend may be forcing the owner to admit
that M. L. is not getting it done.

So far, I prefer Derek Anderson (Ky) to Reggie Freeman (Tx). Freeman
has a nice smile (and I would argue that personality is a major index of
an athlete's long term ability to contribute), but he is too Texas--slashing,
scoring, but not a great spot up shooter. There may not be many better,
but I would look further.
