This happens occasionally...someone is subscribed to the list, and his id no
longer exists. When you send a message to the list, it gets remailed to the
nonexistent id. That id's host is trying to help you by letting you know the
mail did not get delivered.

Most hosts send this back to the address in the "Sender:" field, which is the
mailing list. If the mailing-list manager does its job, these messages are
pitched without getting resent to the entire list. Usually, the intended
recipient is automatically unsubscribed.

In this case, the nonexistent id's host is probably sending the response to
the address in the "From:" field, that is, your personal address. The
mailing list manager never sees it, so it cannot be filtered out, and you
receive it.

Don't worry. Everyone but the nonexistent user got your original message.
Just pitch the response, or perhaps forward it to the human who runs the
mailing list so the nonexistent user can be unsubscribed.
