SUBJECT: salary cap + FA signings + long term
This is how I feel towards RP signing all those long term deals:
Balanced payroll relates to team chemistry. I believe that in the
long term, celtics would have "go-to" players at 8-10mil per
(maybe Walker & Mercer), role players at 1-2mil per, starters at
2-3mil per. I think that is the reason for the long term deals. To
create a balanced team both in payroll which relates to team
chemistry (classic case see Kemp and Sonics)I don't think he is
interested in 98 FAs because it is going to cost like a bomb
(nuclear type, just look at Garnett's rejection of 102mil!). If we
get Baker at 15-20mil per, then most possibily we'll lose Walker
and/or Mercer later because they are going to demand just as high
(if they can perform that is). I think RP is making a lot of sound
decisions at the moment.
At least he did not trade for Acie Earl. Man, have you seen him
play before. Last time I did that was in 93-94 when I had the
chance to watch a full celtics game. It was vs Mavericks. I could
not believe my eyes when I saw Acie Earl (I think he was a rookie
drafted #19 that year). How can they draft someone who can't run
properly, arms and legs are not in tandem when running!! They outta
shot Gavitt or Ford who drafted him. What? He was a swat king in
colleague? Oh, that was zone defence! Earl could not handle
man-marking in the NBA (Stojo was another mistake). Ford must have
see somthing special in Earl to bring him to the bucks.
Go Celtics Go.
