Re: pitino + bird

A couple thoughts about Caleb's post because for the most part, I think
he's right on the money. I just have a couple thoughts. Carr?...he's gone.
I agree...the second Larry went public Carr was history. Bird wants full
control. There's no way that Gaston is going to sacrifice Bird for Carr.
It's going to be the other way around. I actually believe that Gaston and
Auerbach have bought into the McHale "Reach high, aim low," rebuild through
the draft theory, that they made promises to ML about his tenure as coach,
that Larry knew of Gaston's intention / promise to keep ML around to let
him finish the job, and, because Larry thinks ML is an idiot he started
pressuring Gaston to fire him. Gaston had no intention of doing this, so
Larry went public. The quote from Bird last week about him believing that
ML deserves another year?...a pile of crap. He's contacted Pitino, Brown,
and God knows who else...and to be honest, I bet he did it all without the
ok from Gaston. This whole thing is Larry's move. There will be a new coach
next year guys, because Larry wont be there if ML stays. Pitino?...His
desire to be Celtics coach has nothing to do with history. It's about cash.
That statement from him about how odd it is that he's being contacted while
ML is still coaching?...read: "As soon as you fire his ass, give me a
call." That also gives him more leverage when he and Gaston talk money. I'm
also convinced that Larry is in full agreement with this "fire ML first"
demand because he wants to make sure that Pitino is well taken care of and
has no excuse to go somewhere else or stay at Kentucky. This is Pitino's
chance to make a bundle. Remember...if they don't fire ML, Larry goes. Once
they fire ML without hiring a new coach Larry's man automatically gets the
job at any price...with Larry nodding in agreement and threatening to leave
if Gaston doesn't sign the check. Gaston has one alternative...sell the
team. Larry's in charge now because if he doesn't get his way and he leaves
every season ticket holder bails and Gaston is screwed. So, in keeping with
the ML as "Bozo" comment of a previous post, (I forget who wrote it) I just
hope to Christ that Opie knows what he's doing bringing in Aunt Bea. As you
all know I think Aunt Bea should stay home and take care of the kids. You
never saw her strap on the guns, take out a few stills, or smack Otis
around before throwing him in the drunk tank. She did all the important
work at home: making sure that Andy didn't take advantage of Miss Helen by
getting her all liquored up, making sure Opie stayed off drugs and Miss
Helen when Andy was out cruising Mayberry with Barney. Know what I'm
saying? But...there you have it. It's Opie's team now...it's Opie's
draft...it's Opie's coach. How many "Bozo's" are we going to hear when Opie
makes his first mistake? Think he'll take Austin Croshere with the Dallas
pick?
