That reminds me of something I was wondering about recently. How long would 
a bassist need to prepare for such a tour? How was Pino able to step in on 
such short notice last time? I'm picturing someone who's familiar with most 
of the music, but hasn't necessarily played it.

It's tough to say. I agree that if you are familar with the music it's easier to step in. You would just need to work on the cues and when to end. Or you could just learn to stop when Pete starts to snarl.  Main objective.....Keep Pete happy !
