Sit down!

They hadn't hit international recognition status until after...what was it...The AfriAid (?) concert. Bono's even quoted as such. When was that? 1985 or so.

Speaking of U2, I saw a special on them on Trio over the weekend (so careful, I'm up on my U2 trivia).
Is "The Edge" a Pete Townshend fan?
The reason I ask is I noticed him doing several Pete Scissors Kicks, and also had a big ass stack of Hiwatt's behind him.
His playing style isn't all that far from Pete's either. His sound is obviously different, but.....

>They were already considered
>more political,

Well, yeah. Tell us something we don't know.

>more spiritual,

Jon, your opinion? ;-)

>more relevant than the Police in 1984.

Bull-ogney.
Relevant?
Ha!

>And obviously, U2 won.

Well, again, yeah. They stayed together!

>Today they *can* be lumped in with the Beatles,
>the Stones, The Who, etc.

Exactly. Because.....they stayed together!

>The Police, however, remain "Sting's first
>band."

Exactly. Because.....Sting fucked up and broke the band up,...the bastard.
Heard a song by Shtingk today...it sucked. Hated it.

>Granted it's great to hear them play but.....why does it seem so incorrect

It just get's old. Also, much of a band's appeal is knowing they do it for the enjoyment. For the love of the music.
When you start touring the same old stuff, over and over, you start to feel like they're just doing it for the $$.
And, as you've stated, Pete has stated this in the past. Also, knowing how much Pete really doesn't like to tour, doing it for $$ is the only conclusion.
That sucks.
Do it because you want to grow and expand, and live. Not to take as much money as you can until we say "no".

>I'll say anything to get someone to shut up. Ha! That's a joke! I'm
>just kidding! You're a swell guy, Cousin Kevilinski! For a white boy.

I'm white???
Shit!

>Pretty at times but very limited in
>range & style (Pete's voice). Not destined to reach great heights. It's true, I'm afraid.

Don't be afraid.
I see your point.

XYZPDQ!

Now, go out and rock Detroit and the other places.
Do it for the love, Scott.
Fuck the money.
Hell, you'll be drinking all the money away anyways.
And, if you and Jon should begin to fight over the deeper meanings of the universe, remember this one thing.......
Life is short, and then you die.
Do shots instead.
