The Note That Began All....

Forgive me the tenuous connection but tomorrow (Tuesday) October 28th on
American PBS stations a two-part series examining physic's String Theory
begins at 8:00 PM. The series is called "The Elegant Universe."

For those who don't know, String Theory is the theory that all matter at
its smallest level is composed of tiny vibrating loops of energy called
"strings."

This has always intrigued me in the context of Pete's song "Pure & Easy"
with its mentioning of eternal notes, chords of life, simple secrets,
& vibration.

And the "string" in String Theory isn't just cute word-play. The strings
of a musical instrument, such as a guitar, *are* an apt analogy.

However, instead of creating a myriad of "notes," the varying vibrations
of strings in String Theory create different fundamental particles (i.e.
quarks, electrons, etc.).

Sounds wacky, I know, but String Theory so far is the best theory which
incorporates the grand, or macroscopic (such as Einstein's Theory of
Relativity) with the tiny, or microscopic (quantum mechanics). String
Theory very well could be the elusive Theory Of Everything.

Anyway, I invite all to watch Part One, Tuesday night at 8:00 PM on your
local PBS station. Part Two, the conclusion, airs on Tuesday, November
4th.

The series is hosted by an engaging, easy to understand physicist named
Brian Greene & promises to leave out any confusing mathematics & employ
neat computer graphics to make the theory understandable.

I highly recommend it to all. For more, go to:
