Worse yet, as the credits rolled, a distinct Bronx cheer arose from the
front of the theater. Who boos the Who? Particularly at a festival screening
when the director is present in the theater, as Stein was?

You know, I really couldn't figure this out. Who would hate a movie enough to go to the trouble of actually booing it? When was the last time you did that or were in a theatre where that happened?? And moreover, who would be crass and unfeeling enough to boo it, as Ms. Zacharek says, at a festival screening with the director present, for heaven's sake??

I replayed the scene in my head as she described it. WGFA has just come to its spectacular conclusion...the opening chords of "Long Live Rock" sound...the credits start to roll...the boos start...and it hit me. Is it possible they weren't booing, they were Who-ing? "Whooooo!" "Whooooooo!" Seems very strange that Ms. Zacharek, an obvious Who fan, would miss this, but it sounds more reasonable than that an audience would boo even a mediocre movie, much less a landmark like this one.

Cheers,
