While I don't believe that (and I know you don't either), this is all a matter of degrees.
By Pete paying for access, he *knew* that his money would go to this evil empire.
When Joe Dubbie buys a nickel bag, he doesn't believe for a second that his money is going to child porn, murders, etc.

Intent.
Pete intended his money to go right where it went.
And, as Ken points out, contradicts what he wrote in ADB.
How you 'splain that?

But it sure explains my disappointment and confusion.
