Re: ICSFM & WN-D

OOOOh, Hmm, this is going to really bother me now, because I DEFINITELY
heard Pete say this within the last couple of years.

Jon:

Well, if it was the last couple of years...I don't know that I would call it "common knowledge." Pete has said SO MUCH in the last few years, probably as much as he did during the time the band was together. I could have missed it.

>That's how I feel. I'd love to hear a Live at Leeds version with pounding
bass, smashing drums and searing guitar.

Jim:

Ah, you and I have similar fantasies, my friend. ICSFM has always been one of my very favorite Who songs, and I've always regretted the lack of a live version. I don't count the latter day ones, because the magic just wasn't as present, with a few exceptions (The Relay in 2000, for instance). That's just MHO.

>The Kids Are Alright version, by the way, is the only song that consistently
makes me turn down the bass.

That's also the version on Singles, and it sounds to me like John went back and overdubbed another bass line over the top.

>tongue-in-cheek than, say, Legal Matter. But is it lyrically any different
than, say, Under My Thumb?

Yeah...UMT is a put down song. ICSFM is a gotcha song. Legal Matter is an I'm an immature guy song.

>"Underture," either. It's too damn long.

(gasp!)

>How can you say that? It's exactly the right length...to fill out the first
disc of the LP.

Jim:

Well, NOW we must disagree...I don't think it's long enough!

> damn song would've been even longer! What? Pete couldn't come up with
*one* more little song? Bollocks.

Scott:

Maybe you should listen to it while doing acid. THEN you'll understand! Always worked for me.

>It translated perfectly in November 1967.....

Lew:

Having said that...you wouldn't have a COPY, would you????

>ative about a popular band? Yes, I have evolved beyond them. Would
you like to see my list of Who songs that suck?

Scott:

I have such a list as well. Top `O the list is Did You Steal My Money. But then you probably like that one...

>article called 'A different bomb' in 2002 that explains it. Do you know
about that?" He said 'no, but that sounds interesting, bring it in to class
tomorrow.'"

Jon:

You know...you're a pretty good dad.

>I'll keep my review shorter. I won't go into as much detail as Luke did be-
cause....well....I'm not insane. ;-)

Scott:

Um (wanting to agree with you but having to struggle with it), you're certainly not AS insane as "Mr. Hiss." I'll grant you that. But hey, mama weer all crazy now.

>I've heard a bootleg where Pete refers to the song as "Barge In." Is this
the same version?

Jim:

That's it! Same one.
