And it drifts into overkill because on the album the listener has already encountered its melody & theme in "Sparks" (which *isn't* too long, BTW). There's an early review of TOMMY in which the reviewer remarks that one the album's weak points is the "long instrumental" on the first disc. I tend to agree.
