WHO star Pete Townshend yesterday showed the strain of
being named as a child porn suspect.

The 57-year-old rock legend appeared bleary-eyed and
unshaven as he briefly left his home, with a team of
ex- SAS minders at his side.

Townshend, wearing a black jacket, casual shirt and
jeans, was driven off through a rear exit in a silver
Mercedes 4 x 4 vehicle.

He has hired an eight-man team of former special
forces, SAS and Para personnel at a cost of #2000 a
day from London-based Northbridge Services.

Yesterday, the former military men stepped up security
at his #8million property on Richmond Hill, Surrey.

Two guarded the perimeter of the home, pacing up and
down and talking into their walkie-talkies.

The rest installed searchlights, night vision
telescopes, motion detectors and body heat sensors.

It is believed they are working a three-shift system
throughout the day.

Townshend is also believed to have allocated
individual bodyguards to look after his estranged wife
Karen, girlfriend Rachel Fuller and mother Betty, 79.

He is terrified of revenge attacks from vigilantes
since his identification as one of 7000 internet porn
suspects turned up by the worldwide Operation Ore.

The operation is a drive by police forces globally to
stamp out child abuse and porn.

US authorities traced suspects through credit card
payments.

Townshend admits viewing child porn images but claims
he was researching a book. He also claims he was
abused as a child.

He is on police bail to return to Twickenham police
station later this month.
