I am a great American and I am not ashamed of him at all! I did not even
vote for the guy (being the good Libertarian that I am) but I admire his
courage to make a stance for what was right and follow through with it - a
FAR greater happenstance than the previous administration that held their wet
fingers in the air to find out which way the wind was blowing that day before
making a decision! I do disagree with a few things of his administration and
wish the Republicans would slash the overbearing Federal government like they
promise they would do whenever they get elected (one of the reasons I am
Libertarian).
The other option was to follow the lead of the French and Germans and seek
the outmoded appeasement and containment modes. I could at least admire the
French's stance if they were being intellectually honest about this - if
Chirac would get on TV and say - "we oppose this war with Iraq because of our
massive arms deals with them (they are Iraq's Number 2 supplier after the
Soviet Union/Russia) even if they violate the UN embargo, we oppose this war
because for us it IS about oil - our $60 Billion in deals we have with
Saddam. we oppose this war because of the nuclear technology we gave them
including the reactor that Israel bombed that they were seeking to redo.
That is why France opposes this war." Had he said that I would have admired
his courage and honesty. I would have still thought him a gutless coward -
but with respect! As played out, I have more respect for the Saddam Feday
een!
I also find it more than hypocritical that the anti-war Dems idiots like Tom
"soon to be out of a job" Daschle, who supported Clinton's little cruise
missle lobs in 1998 are against what Bush was going to do - only because he
was a Republican! These people will hopefully be run out of office in 2004!
They are vile and despicable. Before he goes however we need to look into
his wife's financial dealings with the airlines as a Federal government
employee. His popularity in South Dakota has fallen through the floor and he
is toast the next election cycle.
As for the statement about the alleged racist death penalty in Texas -
according to every year's FBI crime figures that I see the majority of crimes
are committed by black men - and most often on other black people. So, if
you carry that logically forward, then most people on death row would be
black. Is that racist? Not at all - it is a very sad statement of fact and
of how far the black community, with its giants of leadership like Jesse
Jackson and Al Sharpton, have led them down the wrong path! What is needed
are more leaders that teach responsibility, getting an education and family
action and not more money for the more kids you download as a single mother.
It is no wonder that as more and more American blacks move into the Middle
Class they also change their voting habits to more conservative politics -
the Dems have basically lied to them all these years and they know it. This
fact is scaring the Dems quite a bit actually - and I like that a lot!
I do not support the death penalty as too many cases of the wrong guy dying
for a crime abound. If there are to be some cases for the most heinous
people then make sure all the DNA testing, etc. has been done. The justice
system does make mistakes.
As for Fox News - I watch them more than the others as I think they do a
better job overall. They have quite a few liberal reporters and commentators
working for them. Bill O'Reilly, whi I love as he asks the questions that
frauds like Peter Jennings, Dan Rather, Larry King and those crappy
interviewers would never ask. He hits all his guests the same way - with
tough questions that demand honest answers. I saw him grill Ron
Crickenberger of the Libertarian party just as hard as he has with any
liberal he has had on.
Also - for those that cannot tell the difference - O'Reilly's show is not
news - it is commentary on the news. Big difference. Same for Crossfire,
Hannity & Colmes, etc.
Regarding how some on this list think that conservatives (and maybe even us
Libertarians) cannot listen to the Who because we are of a different
political persuasion than they are - I thought you liberals were supposed to
be "tolerant?" Where is there in any Who record or CD a political quiz card
that demands you think a certain way before you can play the thing? If
Townshend wants to be an idiot socialist that is his business - I am sure he
sweats not one bit over my pro-freedom Libertarian stances! Who cares - just
enjoy the music for what it is!
Finally - regarding WMD in Iraq.....intel sources reported some time ago
about the convoys of stuff heading to Syria. That's where some of it is.
We'll find more in Iraq. We have found plenty of clues (why have Atropine
injectors if you no longer have nerve gas?) After all Saddam has had five
years to hide it and Hans "blind boy" Blix was not trying that hard to find
it anyway. The only way he found those 12 WMD warheads was because the CIA
leaked the location to him. Quite the difference in U(seless) N(ations)
inspectors were from 1998 to 2003. Those in 1998 were kicked out for being
too aggressive and going after the stuff - those in 2003 were trying hard not
to start a war (Blix's own words by the way).
Finally - what's on those three Iraqi ships that the US Navy has been tailing
for a couple months that have been sailing all over going to noplace in
particular?????
