Re: the other Simon

From: SicilianMother@aol.com

What ever happened to Simon Phillips and when did Zak take his place?

Zak took the drummer's seat, as far as I know, for the
1996 leg of the Quadrophenia tour and hasn't left.

Simon did a drum workshop/showcase in San Luis Obispo CA
in May 2001, that I attended, and told us that he plays
drums for "Toto" as his main gig, as well as 1,000,000
other projects, his own and other's.

I got to meet and speak with Simon extensively after the
showcase. He signed several items, some Who-> related,
plus Jeff Beck and Jack Bruce titles.

I asked him about his relationship with TheWho-> and Pete,
and what he thought of Zak's performances with The Who->.
He told me he really loved Zak's playing, and that he sat in,
or actually drummed for TheWho-> on the 2000 tour at the show
in NYC, as I remember.

ANYBODY HAVE THAT...and wanna BeeP me a copy???

He also told me how he repaired the Baba O' tape that
slows down as the first verse kicks in. He said that
when Pete recorded it, there was a power "brown out"
that caused the tape to slow and has been that was
since day one. During the rehearsals for the 1989
25th Anniv Tour, Simon took the tape and digitally
repaired the "slow part" for Pete.

Take a listen, ever since the 1989 tour, the Baba backing
tape plays uniformly all the way through.

Oh, when I mentioned to Simon, "What, *you* replaced Zak
in TheWho-> at a show in NYC during the 2000 tour?"

Simon relpied, "No, Zak replaced me!!"

Simon lives in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area, and is a
frequently seen ticket out and about the area, on foot and
behind skins.

Just be persistent, loud, and disagreeable. Worked for me!!

<and also felt like I was the biggest fan the Who ever
