Damned Who

You are wrong. Zep was in 3rd place even before Bone's
death - they catched the press and the audience with
their so-called heavy rock (the fathers of heavy metal
and so on) and that is the end of the story.
To me, The Who is kinda damned, type You have invented
rock'n'roll, hard rock, punk rock, prog rock, you are
true masters, but you never will received the credits
by that - f*ck you, insolent bastards!

Yeah man, but it's been like that since the beginning
of time.
It's always been Beatles, then Stones, than a tie with
Zep and Who (NOT MY
PERSONAL VIEW!).
Funny, since Zep stopped at the death of Bone-man, it
seems that Zep is now
clearly in 3rd place, with The Who falling down into
the double digits.
Why? Because they keep getting bashed for
"continuing", for mediocre albums
after Moon, for reunion tours. We're fucking cursed!

>Now does The Who have anything
>like that? Why not? They have a much better show
and they have far
superior
>quality. But to joe fan, the Stones are happening.
They get on T.V. shows

>because they have a new song to play.

I disagree. They get T.V. shows because they are The
Stones. The band that
spurred a magazine in their name all about rock. The
Stones *are* Rock (to
the average shmo).
But, and I SAY BU-U-U-T! Even the all mighty Stones
are starting to take
some serious heat for continuing and for releasing new
and boring albums
(even though I really liked Tattoo You).

>I saw that Robert Plant was on Leno
>last night. Why weren't The Who on?

See, Zep is now 3rd.
Oh, and see above comments.
If Plant and Page and Jones put out a new album (even
of average quality)
and then toured, it would be like the second coming.

>I want them to beat these guys.

You and me both man!

>I want them to cash in.

I hear ya! But, I think they are cashing in nicely.

>I want them to do
>what THEY want to do, but I want them to know that
someone will respond to
>them when they do it.

We'll respond (hard-core fans). I'll respond.
You think I won't buy any new album?
Ha!
Of course I will.
It's the average shmo though that Pete and Rog will be
looking at to help
them "cash in".

>I saw EVERYBODY responding to them even without John
>live.

Yeah, me too. But, that was a walk down mammary lane.
 Only two post-Moon
songs played.
That says something.

>Yeah, there's the legacy thing, but that is already
done. Their legacy is
>Live at Leeds.

I think their legacy is Tommy and WN.
Leeds takes a bit of a harder fan.

>No one will ever beat that.

AMEN!

>No one can ever take it away
>from them either, not even themselves. That was what
the four of them could

>do at their peak and it is in the books (and in my cd
player right now).

AMEN AGAIN!

>The only ones I hear criticizing this tour are the
people that haven't even

>gone to see it. What should I care about what they
have to say?

Are you talking about Mark? ;-)
I don't believe you are, but let me add...I think a
really good thread would
be the different views of The Who by different
generations of fans. It's
something I've been thinking about allot lately. It's
something that needs
to be respected and carefully considered.

I haven't heard anyone criticize the quality of the
show or music.
But, I'm hearing plenty of people (pro critics and
amateur alike) criticize
current motivations and logic.
It's out there.
Pete acknowledges it.

>Pete , Roger and Zak are still alive and they just
might shock us.
Again.

I really would have loved to hear Zak in the studio
along with TED.

It just makes me feel uneasy now.
I keep coming back to the "no-win" situation.
If they do an album as "The Who", it's gonna get
trashed by a bunch of
critics who like to add to the "curse of The Who".
If they do an album as DT, they lose the name
recognition.

But, I'm also increasingly of the mind that such a
move (going forward as
DT) will be respected as a sign of respect to John
(although what does that
say about Moon? Moon can be replaced, but not John?)
and will be seen by
the "average shmo's" as an album played by one *HELL*
of a great band, being
led by one of the greatest song writers and guitar
players in history.

I guess I'm now in the camp of "if they are to
continue, they should go as
DT or something".

Awe hell, I JUST DON'T KNOW!

This is good stuff though, isn't it?
