Re: Description of UK release of The Ultimate Collection

I've just got my copy of the new UK release of the Ultimate Collection
and a fairly snazzy little thing it is, too.

Firstly, the packaging is a 3 way digipak which opens out to four
panels, one of which has the same booklet as the US release stuck on,
and the other three panels are the CD's on clear mounts with the marquee
poster picture under each disc.

Disc one is printed solid blue with the Who logo (extended h and arrow
on the o) in white, disc 2 is printed with the red and white logo (a
repeat of the badge on page 3 of the booklet) and disc 3 is printed in
black with the Who logo from disc one repeated in white again.

The booklet flap is printed on the reverse with a collection of Who
memorabilia which appear to be mounted in a wooden picture frame, and
the reverse of the disc 3 flap has a woodstock era photo of Pete
jumping, with details of the tracks on disc 3 printed on.

The rear cover of the digipak has track listings for all 3 discs and the
front cover is the photo you've seen in amazon, cdnow or in magazine
adverts.

The two CD rom tracks (baba and Substitute) are in Quick time format
only, and play pretty nicely.

I won't comment on the sound quality; as usual, my ears are shot (too
much maximum R n B volume) and frankly all these CD's sound pretty good
to what's left of my hearing!

All in all, a nice alternative packaging to the rather plain US jewel
case and bonus disc in separate card sleeve.

Is it worth buying? Probably yes if you want the better packaging,
definitely if you don't have the US release with bonus disc; as for the
track selections, well we know them all and love most of them!

Cheers,

John
