Bootleg Review

Ah, the exciting world of bootleg buying. It's a little like gambling.
If you're not sure what you're getting....well....you're not sure what
you're getting.

I thought I knew what I was getting today. I thought I was getting
another CD boot of The Who's Fillmore East 1968 performance.

The title of the CD was MY GENERATION: FILLMORE EAST
1968. Like CD boots often do, this one had a cover shot of the
band from a different time period than what's on the CD. This one
had The Who circa '75-'76 on the cover. And on the back.

Whatever. I bought it. I didn't really realize 'till I got home that the
CD didn't even have any song titles on the back. Strange.

Long story long - I play the CD & not *one* song is from the Who's
famous '68 Fillmore show. I thought maybe they put the wrong CD
in the case; no, upon checking, the actual CD says Fillmore 1968,
also.

So what's on it, you ask? Well, it starts out with:

Overture / It's A Boy / 1921 / Amazing Journey (edited big time) /
Sparks / Eyesight to the Blind / Heaven & Hell / I Can't Explain /
Fortune Teller / Tattoo / Summertime Blues / Shakin' All Over / My
Generation

....all from the Georgetown 1969 show which is available on other
boots. No sound upgrade from the others either. Maybe worse -
thinner, digital clicks,.... Stereo but switched - Pete on the left, En-
twistle on the right. Too fast.

Next:

The Kids Are Alright (Pete demo) / It's Not True (Pete demo) /
I'm Free (from the TOMMY rehearsals) / Greyhound Girl (Pete) /
The Relay (Pete demo)

Nothing new here. More bad sound (except maybe for the LIFE-
HOUSE material which sounds like it might've been directly lifted
from CHRONICLES) plus quick fade-outs & poor edits. Let's con-
tinue.

Next:

Dogs Pt. 2 / I Don't Even Know Myself (Pete demo) / Shout &
Shimmy (edited, live at the Richmond Jazz Festival) / Classifieds
(Pete) / Premier Drums (from SELL OUT) / Odorono / Radio
London promo (from SELL OUT) / Tattoo (SELL OUT)

And there you have it. FILLMORE 1968. Needless to say, stay
away from this CD. It's awful & it lies.

Remember - it's called MY GENERATION: FILLMORE 1968.
It has a non-stage shot of the band circa '75-'76 on the cover (&
a live shot from the same era on the back) & doesn't have the song
titles anywhere on the case or CD itself (which is silver & not a
CD-R).

I looked for a pseudo label name, etc., but there's nothing. Any-
where.
