Re: New Daltrey VH1 interview

"My impression from this interview is that Roger is an incredibly selfish person who wants it all his own way."

John,
But then again, you don't want to have his babies ;-)

I have the same impression of Roger.
I suspect Roger operates on the feudal warfare system. You come into town, conquer the men and take all the women. Well, as many as you can handle in one night, anyway.

This has always been the prerogative of rich and powerful men. It shouldn't be that big a surprise. ;)

After watching some of his intros and outros on VH1 Classic this weekend, I'm also left with the impression that he has developed his ego by impersonating Pete Townshend. Sometimes it works. Somtimes not so much.
Can't comment. Do you mean his interview persona? I didn't see it yet. I suppose a tape will be circulating? :)

Two of these were particularly galling to me. I don't have his exact words, just my take. His intro to "Eminence Front" included his analysis of what made Pete write it. "The Who saved him from killing himself."
I dunno. From other information, I suspect he's giving The Who too much credit, but I do think the near death experience contributed to this one. It cuts right through the front of fame and celebrity right down to the quick. Do we have a Pete explanation for "Eminence Front" to compare?

In talking about Tommy he said something like "I was not prepared
for the way my newfound fame distanced me from my audience. We were always a working class band of the people. Tommy made that difficult."

This is a recurring theme, so likely it's something Roger has regretted for some time. He made a similar comment in one of the interviews about Bob Dylan and how he stays in bed and breakfast hotels (Dylan is so unrecognizable that he was recently barred by security from his own concert). Roger and Pete do seem wander around by themselves most of the time, but I don't think they do it when they're on tour with The Who. After John Lennon, they're both too high profile for it to be safe.

I'm with you, John. I would prefer that Roger keep his thoughts to himself. He does not give me a 'warm and fuzzy'. Keep singing and twirling Rog!!!
Pete's definitely the warm, fuzzy guy.

I've been thinking that given all the PR that Rog has been pumping out, the 2002 US tour should be dubbed the "See My Way" Tour :0)

OK Lela, let me have it ;-)
Did I come through for you? :)
