Robert Plant on the Who's Decision to Tour

Robert Plant discusses the Who's decision to tour in an interview with
Launch.com. Ironically, Led Zep drummer John Bonham died in 1980 while the
band was rehearsing for a U.S. Tour. Zeppelin decided not to tour and
disbanded for good except for a one off at Live Aid in 1985. Plant and Page
did get together in the mid and late 90s for two tours and album, "Walking
into Clarksdale."

(7/10/02, 12 p.m. ET) - Robert Plant's new solo album, Dreamland, comes out
Tuesday (July 16). To promote it, the former Led Zeppelin frontman will be on
the road with the Who, opening shows on the next two legs of the group's North
American tour.

Plant tells LAUNCH that he, like many others, didn't know if the shows would
happen following the death of bassist John Entwistle on June 27 in Las Vegas,
on the eve of the tour's start. "I'm ambivalent, really," he said. "I have no
idea of exactly where everybody was at at that time, even though I'm very
close to them and we share the same management. When I spoke to my manager, he
said, 'They're absolutely devastated and they sat down and they said, 'Well,
are we all gonna go home', and they made a decision and that's what they
decided to do. It's their history, and it's their future."

Plant adds that he's not necessarily surprised by the Who's decision to
continue, although he acknowledges that it was probably a very difficult
choice: "I think that the guys made a decision to do what they did, what they
have done, and I guess in the light of everything, and everybody being primed
up to do it, I guess you carry on. I'm going out there to promote my album,
and I'm very proud of what I do. There are several other ways that I could
have appeared in the United States."

Before hooking up with the Who on July 26 at the Tweeter Center in Mansfield,
Massachusetts, Plant plays a few dates on his own starting July 20 at Rock
Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin.
