Music
Anyway Anyhow Anywhere: The Complete Chronicle of The
Who 1958-1978, by Andy Neill and Matt Kent (Sterling
Publishing Co., $40). Andy Neill and Matt Kent (the
latter of whom runs the Whos official Web site) are
as rabid Who fans as youll find, and their meticulous
chronicling of the bands peak (that is, ending with
the death of drummer Keith Moon) is sure to thrill
hardcore fans. The book is made with the bands
cooperation, but the authors are able to keep critical
distance and mesh dates and facts with a narrative
that gives a strong look at how the creative tension
in the band worked. The result is huge events, trivial
occurrences and interesting memorabilia and photos
that add up to a definitive portrait of the band,
their music, how it all happened and what it all
meant.
