This push may be the clock. The Who has a time limit, where he has the rest
of his life to do his own things. The Who has an image and requires and
incredible amount of energy. It is also where the money is. It is a brand
that is very recognizable and where I, for one, would like to see him spend
this period of his life while there is still such a wonderful thing.

With the band Pete is not the focal point and I believe that enables him to
be much more daring because the blame/credit can be shared. He loves his
music, as we do. I believe that he knows that more of his music will be heard
through the band than not. He is saddled with this band whereas Eric Clapton
is not (with a band), because Pete's band was just too great. I think that
he is O.K. with this now. That is why he refused to play guitar on stage
with David Bowie at the CFNYC. Just look at the result.

They are a phenomenon.
